About This Item
New York and Philadelphia: Alexander & Co. and J.B. Lippincott & Co, 1866. First American edition. Hardcover. Very good. xii, 404pp. including index. Original brown blindstamped decorative cloth, gilt lettering on spine, and bevelled boards. This edition published in the same year as the London edition but without the two tinted plates and with erroneous "1856" date at the end of the preface. A few spots on the lower portion of front boards; minor dampstain at the top right of the page from front flyleaf to page 4, light foxing throughout. However, binding is tight, gilt lettering on spine is still very bright and the text is clean. Ascertained During a Visit to the States in the Autumn of 1865.
