About This Item

London: Jonathan Cape, 1927. Cloth. Good. 9" by 6.5". Not Stated . T. E. Lawrence's classic war memoir, the fifth impression. The fifth impression of this work published in May 1927, following the first four impressions all published in March 1927. Also published in a limited edition in the same year. The first edition of Pillars of Wisdom published for the general public in Lawrence's lifetime. Despite the literary merit of his classic autobiographical account, producing the Subscribers' Edition only had left Lawrence facing bankruptcy; this forced him to produce this pruned version for sale to the general public, and was an immediate success.A fascinating first-hand account telling of Lawrence's experiences in the British Army while serving as a military advisor to Bedouin forces during the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire.Illustrated with a frontispiece and further full page plates, complete with folding ma to rear. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally generally smart with minor shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities, damp marks along the back strip affecting both front and rear boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Good
