INSCRIBED by the Author on the title page & dated "September 21, 1989," tall 8vo (9 1/4" x 6 1/4" x 1 3/4"), black quarter cloth with silver lettering on spine over beige boards, illustrated with 16 pp. of glossy B&W photos, archival mylar-protected photographic dust jacket (unclipped) with photo of Richard Wright, beige endpapers, Notes, Bibliographical Essay, Index, 428 pages. Weight: 1 lb. 12 oz. Margaret Walker (1915 - 1998) was an American poet and prominent Black writer. She was part of the African-American literary movement in Chicago, known as the Chicago Black Renaissance. Her notable works include the best-selling novel Jubilee (1966), set in the South during the American Civil War.<br /> <br /> INSCRIBED / SIGNED in SUPERIOR CONDITION: Tight, clean, unmarked copy with a few traces of edgewear to the bright unclipped dust jacket. Apart from the inscription to the Mayo's, no marks by previous owners or remaindering.
