About This Item

One of a limited edition - only 100 produced (per Roycroft's web site). Suede cover has frayed along edges. Book pages slightly yellowed, but otherwise clean and colors are bright.

Synopsis

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow first appeared in a story collection by Irving called  The Sketch-Book Of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. This first classic collection of American short stories also featured the popular Rip Van Winkle . The fantastical portions of Irving's works were inspired not only by his travels around Europe and hearing old folk tales and mythology, but also by a visit to upstate New York in the Catskill Mountains as a youth. His exposure to the old Dutch customs and ghost stories around Tarrytown, New York planted the seeds for his Headless Horseman character.
