About This Item

Fleischmans, NY: Purple Mountain Press, 2009. Book. Very Good. Soft cover. 1st Edition. A very good copy, signed by the author. This is a thoroughly researched history of the Mohican or "river" Indians during the 17th and 18th centuries. The author writes: "The book intends to give recognition to, and express appreciation for, the contributions Mohicans and other Algonquians have made to the ongoing culture of the northeastern United States." The book begins with a description of how the fur trade began between the Dutch and the Mohicans and how the former used alcohol to lure the Indians. Many of today's names of towns and rivers were important Mohican chiefs. Interesting read..
