The first edition, first impression of this novel from English author Rumer Godden, in the publisher's original price unclipped dust wrapper.An account of the coming of age of two adolescent girls of an Anglo-Indian family in Bengal.This work was faithfully adapted into a film, directed by Jean Renoir, in 1951, with Godden collaborating on the script.Best known for the 1939 novel 'Black Narcissus', and its 1947 film adaptation, Godden authored over sixty works for both children and adults in her lifetime. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price unclipped dust wrapper. Shelf wear to spine head and tail. Small closed tear to head of dust wrapper rear wrap, with light chipping to back strip head, and a further tear to head of front wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
