About This Item
NY: S. S. McClure, 1902. Book. VG. Soft cover. 8vo. 10pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated with 5 photographs taken the previous summer by Dr. F. A. Cook at Cape Sabine, where Peary was presently encamped, and a map showing the region of Peary's exploration, first page-only in photocopy, salvaged from a damaged issue of McClure's Magazine, Volume XVIII, No. 4, February, 1902. From the editor's preface, "The other day a letter came out of the white north bringing tidings of bold deeds and new worlds conquered. It was written by Lieutenant Robert E. Peary in a forlorn, snow-banked hut on the shores of a frozen sea within less than 600 miles of the North Pole." Photographs include a portrait of Peary, a portrait of Peary's negro assistant Matt Henson, Peary's Eskimo colony, Peary and his daughter Marie, and a view of Cape Sabine. Housed in protective mylar report cover with spine sleeve..
