Macmillan, London., 1879. First U.K. edition, revised, binding variant "a" with the slightly more pronounced "L" in the "VOL" on the spines. There is no priority in the two binding issues. First published in the U.S.A. in 1875, this revised edition has a large number of verbal alterations, several passages re-written, and the chapter titles eliminated. Octavo. Three volumes: pp [iv], 258, [39] adverts dated May 1879; [ii], 277; [ii], 263. Only 500 copies were printed. Original green-blue cloth lettered in gilt.Cloth a little snagged at heads and tails of spines. Spines a bit cocked. Very good indeed.
