About This Item

London: Eyre and Spottiswoode, 1957. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. Signed by Author. First UK Edition. Publisher's green paper-covered boards stamped in gilt to the spine. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR. Spine sunned and less so to the front board and the edge of the back board; foxing to the early/late pages of the book. Overall about VG. The supplied D/W is in VG++ condition with a touch of fraying at the head of the spine. With the VERY RARE PUBLISHER'S WRAP-AROUND BAND which is complete but spotted to both the front and rear panel portions. The book itself is inscribed to Royston and Ann Millmore (close friends of the author) on the front free end-paper: "To my very good friends/ Royston and Ann Millmore/ con amore/ John Braine". Above the inscription Royston Millmore has written his name in pencil. Royston Millmore (1910-1997) worked in the wool industry in Bradford and was Editor of the Trade Journal: The Wool Record. He was also a published author. Great D/W art by John Minton. First Book. Scarce with these attributes. Photographs/scans available upon request.
