John Gunther was one of the best known and most admired journalists of his day, and his series of "Inside" books, were immensely popular profiles of the major world powers. This work about FDR, written in 1950 just 5 years after the great man's death, still stands as one of the best overviews of the subject. It was the first overall and objective appraisal of Roosevelt as a human being. The book is split into sections dealing with each part of Roosevelt's life before becoming a president, as president, creating the New Deal, and as a wartime president.
