About This Item
London: Robert Hale, 1954. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo., 190pp. Sharp First Hardcover Edition of one of Cain's lesser known works, originally published as a Paperback Original as one of the stories in The Avon All-American Fiction Reader in 1951 and reprinted by Avon in 1952. Bound in black cloth with titles in gilt on spine. Square, tight and clean throughout with little or no wear save a gentle bump to the crown. Off-setting to end-papers and spotting to outer page-edges. Equally attractive unclipped dust-jacket, (9/6 net), has some rubbing to spine ends, edges and tips. Mild soiling to rear panel. Still fresh and bright with no chipping, creases, toning or tears. A very pretty collectable copy. (Hubin, p.61).
