This superbly tight and nice first edition bears a fine presentation inscription and signature on front flyleaf in black fineline: "To my good friend Bob Malott, / who has helped keep the / University of Chicago a very / special place where books like / this are still encouraged / and written / Ken Dam." Dam (1932-2022) was an academic and politician who served as 8th U.S. Deputy Secretary of State (1982-85) and 9th U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury (2001-04), while recipient Malott (1926-2018) was a noted Chicago business leader, CEO of FMC Corporation, Republican politico and philanthropist.
