SIGNED by the author on a laid-in slip with a typed notation. 305pp. Octavo [20.5 cm] Beige cloth with gilt lettering on brown ink stamped panels on the spine and front cover, and horizontal gilt ruled designs on the spine. Publisher's black top stain. The boards are mildly soiled and stained, the extremities are bumped, and the underlying boards are exposed at the corners of the covers. The text block is just beginning to crack at the rear. In a moderately edge worn dust jacket, with a 3/4" closed tear in the paper at the foot of the spine. Illustrated by Ritchie Cooper. A novel of a lovable art and antique dealer and his musings on collectors and collecting. With a tipped-in typed slip signed by Tarkington, in which he addresses his unfortunate stage fright and his difficulty giving readings.
