Synopsis
Philip Milton Roth is an American novelist. Roth became one of the most honored authors of his generation. In this 1995 winner of the National Book Awards, Mickey Sabbath is a lecherous, unproductive former puppeteer with a strong inclination toward whores, adultery and casual encounters. He takes great pleasure in manipulating the people around him and enjoys having the power to have them play the same role as his puppets. The loss of his long-term sexual partner, Drenka, hastens a crisis in his life and he wonders if he should simply take his own life. Sabbath’s Theater is a strange psychological experience and depicts an interesting, fascinating perspective on the values of today’s society.
