About This Item

New Jersey: Princeton University Press, 1975 First edition in pictorial wrappers: Princeton Series of Contemporary Poets. Author's first book of poetry. Signed presentation to Mark Strand by Robert Pinsky directly on the half-title page: "For Mark, with / warm regards / and admiration. / Robert / 2/9/76." Additionally, a Cambridge envelope addressed to Mark Strand laid-in with a short letter to Strand from Pinsky on a personal stock card, reading: "Dear Mark, / Thank you for The Weather of Words--you kept your / promise! -- and I'm glad. An I, too, have been / busy with the alphabet. / It was great to see you, and really impressive, as / ever, to hear you read the poems. / Yours, / Robert." Light toning to spine and a faint short crease to upper front cover, else book in fine condition. A lovely copy. Mark Strand was named U.S. poet Laureate in 1990 and received the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his collection Blizzard of One in 1999. Pinsky was named U.S. poet Laureate in 1997 and received the PEN/Voelcker Award for Poetry (2004).
