About This Item
Sachem's Head, Connecticut: published by the secretary, 1910. Scarce copy (not in Worldcat Discovery or Literary Hub Discovery) of this early publication of this sailing club on the Connecticut shore in Guilford, near the Thimble Islands. Foolscap 8vo (148 x 107mm): 57,[1]pp, with halftone frontispiece of club house, full-page color plates of club flags and signal flags, and additional halftone plate of club fleet. Original pictorial canvas, front cover with club's burgee and title stamped in navy blue and red. With officers and committees, list of members and yachts, signal code, constitution, racing rules, and more. Laid in is a two-age typed letter from vice-commodore Charles F. Wood, dated July 13, 1912, to club founder William E. Peck in New York City, apparently written from Hawaii and noting that business has delayed him in the Pacific, but that he hopes to see Peck at Sachem Head later that August. Reference is made to the purchase of land which will become part of the yacht club's property. A splendid survival, front cover lightly stained, but tightly bound and clean throughout. In the summer of 1896, Aaron Hill, John Elton Wayland, Edward C. Seward, and William E. Peck founded this yacht club on Long Island Sound, the following year the first annual regatta was held on Labor Day with seventeen boats entered. Various races, regattas, and cruises have since been held from Rhode Island to New York. N. B. With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, carefully preserved in archival, removable mylar sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed. (Fine Editions Ltd is a member of the Independent Online Booksellers Association, and we subscribe to its codes of ethics.).
