About This Item
St. Andre-Near-Bruges (Belgium) / London: Liturgical Apostolate, Abbey of St. Andre / Burns Oates and Washbourne Ltd, 1951. Hardcover. Good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. 2 separate books, each bound in black with matching custom covers that are more or less a kind of "mosaic," with the word "Jerusalem" on each front cover. SAINT ANDREW DAILY MISSAL: xxxviii, 1161pp., 105pp., 36pp., (i). 1951 printing. Latin and English text. Approximately seven pieces of the "mosaic" are missing at extremities of covers on this volume. Several tiny chips and tiny worn areas to original black leather, which can only be seen on spine and edges of covers. All edges gilt. With marker-ribbons. Just minor wear to edges of pages and mild wear and a touch of soiling to intact marker-ribbons. Text clean and binding sound. HOLY BIBLE: lxxii, 1360pp., 377pp. This printing is circa 1914. With a preface by the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster. Tiny wear spot and a tiny stain to first page of Old Testament, with only one letter of text partially effected. Mild tanning to paper. In this case, the volume was originally bound in black cloth. This cloth can still be seen on spine and edges of covers. All pieces of the "mosaic" are still intact. Light wear to cloth and gilt edges of pages. Front hinge is cracked and the paper over back hinge shows some wear. Therefore, the binding has a "shaken" kind of feeling, though mostly feels firm. Will require some extra care in handling to preserve binding. Text block remains square. Text clean. Minor creases to extremities of a small number of pages, though this isn't remotely offensive. Overall, this is a lovely and unique set of books
