Describes the architectural heritage of Santorine island from the establishment of the Venetian rule (1204) until the devastating earthquake on the island, in 1956. Its aim is to analyze and study the buildings of this period and to draw conclusions on the evolution of its architecture and construction. The methodology applied, is based on the separation of this long study period (1204-1956) into three: the Venetian, Ottoman and modern Greek. The historical context of each period is analyzed and the buildings under study are documented chronologically. The chosen constructions are placed under a period and they are analyzed architecturally, through their typology and morphology. The construction types of each period are studied separately, through their structural elements (foundations, walls, roofs, floors, mortars, etc.). The final work is a combining study, achieved through the overall comparative analysis of the architecture and construction during the chosen period. The conclusions demonstrate and prove the evolution of the architectural and structural components and constructions of the three periods. The work includes numerous designs, images and other primary, unpublished and archival material.
