About This Item

New York: Grove Press Inc, 1966. Fine in like jacket.. First edition, first printing of Kerouac's sojourn to France to research his genealogy. Originally published in three parts in the "Evergreen Review," SATORI IN PARIS is a classic Kerouac exploration of events and people despite its personal framing. Kerouac expressed concern over the book's shortness in his personal correspondence, and also discouragement in the "general new distaste in culture since 1960 for works of realistic sentimentality... a trend towards the Ian Fleming type of sadistic facetiousness and 'sickjoke' grisliness about human affairs" (Charters). A very attractive of one of Kerouac's last works published in his lifetime. 8'' x 5.25''. Original blue publisher's cloth binding with silver titles to spine. Original color typographic dust jacket, unclipped ($3.95), designed by Kuhlman Associates. 118 pages. Includes publisher's review slip laid in. Extremely mild edgewear to jacket, with very light scuff to rear. Slightest bit of soil to fore-edge, else a sharp, bright copy.

Synopsis

Satori in Paris is a 1966 novel by American novelist and poet Jack Kerouac. It is a short, semi-autobiographical tale of a man who travels to Paris, then Brittany, to research his genealogy. Kerouac relates his trip in a tumbledown fashion as a lonesome traveler. Little is said about the research that he does, and much more about his interactions with the French people he meets.
