About This Item
Toronto: Clarke Irwin, 1972. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. This is a first printing of the first edition, with a complete number line. The interior of the book is crisp and clean. There is a former owner's name on the front free end paper, but no other marks or signs of previous use. The green covers are fresh, with just a touch of wear at edges and corners. The dust jacket is not price-clipped, but shows light edge wear, and some colour loss. The attached scan gives a better idea of condition. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. Synopsis: The Harrington children's grandmother told wonderful stories. And she seemed to be able to remember one to suit each of her grandchildren. For Maggie, who was tired of hearing about pretty little girls, there was the story about Mindy Gump, who thought the reason people didn't like her was because she was plain. For Tim, who was fascinated by some Chinese figures, there was the tale of the gardener's son who tricked the emperor of china in order to save his fathers life. And, to please young Terry, who liked animals, she remembered a story about two children who brought their mother an absolutely perfect birthday present - a monkey. Only it didn't work out quite as they had planned.
