Author's historical mystery crime novel set in ancient Rome and the 18th book of the Marcus Didius Falco Mysteries series. The title refers to the Saturnalia feast held annually in December, a time of drunkenness and lusty behavior. Lindsey Davis (born 1949) is an English historical novelist, best known as the author of the Falco series of historical crime stories set in ancient Rome and its empire. Among her awards: The Author's Club Prize for "Best First Novel" in 1989 for The Silver Pigs; The Crime Writers' Association (CWA): Dagger in the Library for being an author "whose work has given most pleasure" in 1995; Winner of the 2011 Cartier Diamond Dagger from the Crime Writers' Association.

Synopsis

LINDSEY DAVIS has written nineteen novels, beginning with The Course of Honour , the love story of the Emperor Vespasian and Antonia Caenis. Her bestselling mystery series features laid-back First Century detective Marcus Didius Falco and his partner Helena Justina, plus friends, relations, pets and bitter enemy the Chief Spy. Her books are translated into many languages and serialised on BBC Radio 4. Past Chair of the Crimewriters' Association and a Vice President of the Classical Association, she has won the CWA Ellis Peters Historical Dagger, the Dagger in the Library, and a Sherlock award for Falco as Best Comic Detective. She was born in Birmingham but now lives in London.
