Hardback octavo, no jacket (missing), good condition, grey cloth covered boards (few tiny spots), black & white photos including frontispiece, edges foxed, light foxing some pages, stain spine & front cover, spine ends little creased, boards little faded, owner's written name & details. 231 pp. The story of the Papuan armed constabulary - the native police who were trained by MacGregor and Murray. Their exploits in arresting headhunters etc., are legendary. J. D. Hides started to write this fascinating book in the deep forests of the Rentoul River country. He wrote the final chapters while he wandered about headwaters of the Strickland. The many photos illustrate this important story.
