Teal cloth, white & gilt titles on spine, gilt dec. on front board & spine, endpaper maps, x, 278 pp, 8 ff b & w photo plates, bibliography, index. Corners bumped, tail of spine rumpled. DJ has some small tears & creasing, mostly at corners & spine ends; in Brodart archival cover. Newcomb writes here about "one of the most humiliating sea defeats of World War II--a defeat that all but undid the recent triumph at Midway, and almost canceled out the effective landings at Guadalcanal and Tulagi forty-eight hours before." Based on the Hepburn Report (an unpublished naval inquiry), the Naval War College analysis, and interviews with survivors and investigators. Shipping weight 2 lbs.. First Edition. .
