The price he had to pay for achieving this was the loss of his companions in the most celebrated mountain disaster of all time. His one other great expedition was in 1880 to the Andes of Ecuador. Although his writings and lecturing brought him success, his life may be said to have been ruined by the tragedy which followed his moment of triumph].. Reprint. Hard Cover. VG-/No Jacket.
