About This Item

New York: Harper & Row, 1962. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/good +. From the front jacket flap: In this personal, "off duty" account of two expeditions aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, Prince Philip, both as writer and photographer, reveals a sharply observant eye for the sea, its remote islands, and its beautiful birds. The first expedition leads from Kenya to Malaya to New Zealand, across the Pacific to Antarctica, and around Cape Horn into the Falklands, South Georgia, Gough Island, Tristan da Cunha, and St. Helena. The second moves by way of the islands of the Pacific through the Panama Canal to Bermuda. . . ." The boards are full blue cloth, not quarter cloth as some may be found to be. Jacket has original price printed. The endpapers are mapped, with the front being the first expedition, and the back endpapers being the second voyage. The photographic illustrations are excellent, and there are also 8 paintings of birds by Commander A.M. Hughes, R.N., included. The book is in very good condition, with light edgewear (mostly just the edges faded a little where not completely covered by the jacket) and spine ends a bit bumped but not frayed. Tje jacket has definite edgewear, including some creases, small closed tears, and a small chip or two, a scuff here and there, and light cover soil, primarily on the back.
