About This Item

New York: The Viking Press, 1944. First Edition . Cloth with Dustjacket. Lillian Hellman's romantic world war II drama mixing a love triangle with politics. The play is notable for featuring the young Montgomery Clift. It had a somewhat respectable run of 318 performances on Broadway in 1944 and was later made into a film directed by William Dieterle with Robert Young, Sylvia Sidney and Douglas Dick (remember him?) in the role made famous by Clift. Hellman dedicated the play to Dorothy Parker. The nice dustjacket designed by The Immerman Studio has a very tiny touch of wear to the edges. The cheap wartime paper used is fine with no wear except for the usual age darkening of the paper. Vg+/Vg+.
