About This Item

Toronto: Provincial Board of Health/C. Blackett Robinson, 1884. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Original decorative stamped pebbled cloth hardcovers, with gilt titles and insignia to front and spine. Light rubbing to spine ends and corners, with some slight loss to cloth at corners. Corners lightly bumped. Contemporary doctor's name label to front endpaper. Otherwise a clean, tight and unmarked book. Very neat. Residential sanitation and school heating circulation diagrams. Several fold-out charts. This Annual Report includes a review of the massive London flood of 1883. Much on disease outbreaks, and reviews of nuisance industry complaints. According to Heather MacDougall in "Researching Public Health Services in Ontario, 1882-1930": "This eclectic mixture of material reflects the various strands of the public health movement and the methods which were used to generate support from politicians, the people and the professions." A superb copy of a scarce book. [lx,430+23pp.].
