It consisted of twelve novels, beginning with 'Swallows and Amazons'.Arthur Ransome was an English author best known for this children's series, detailing the adventure holidays of children set in the Lake District and the Norfolk Broads.This work is the eighth in the series.A first edition, third impression, published in the same year as the first, 1939. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally generally smart, with some edgewear. Dust wrapper has loss to the tail of the spine, which is a little sunned. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed

Synopsis

Secret Water is the eighth book in Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons series of children's books. It was published in 1939. This book is set in and around Hamford Water in Essex, close to the resort town of Walton-on-the-Naze. It brings the Swallows and the Amazons together and introduces a new group of characters, the Eels and the Mastodon. Ransome used to sail to Hamford Water, an area of tidal salt marshes and low-lying islands, in his yacht Nancy Blackett.
