In the original publisher's grey cloth, lettering in green, pictorial artwork to spine and front cover in green, red, black and white. Very Good, cloth rubbed at spine ends, corners a bit bumped and rubbed. small "Brentano's Booksellers" label bottom edge rear paste down. Contents clean and unmarked with absolutely no foxing or toning, a quite handsome copy containing 12 stories from this master of the macabre, Richard Marsh, who is best known for his classic novel of supernatural horror, "The Beetle" (1897). . v+321 pages. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to cover and spine. First British edition. St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
