London: T. Cadell, 1777. 3rd Edition. Hardcover. Fair. Vol. 1: xi, 244. Vol. 2: vii, 279 + advertisement reverse of last leaf. 19 cm. Engraved portrait vignette by John Hall on title page of both volumes. Full leather with gold impressing. Both volumes worn and bumped. Cracking of covers near spine. Vol. 2 front cover detached and leather chipped at head of spine. Vol. 1's front board is just barely attached. Front endpapers show evidence of bookplates removed. Ink signatures from 1895 in both volumes. Moderate foxing. Stain top right corner of p. 275 in Vol. 2. Green ribbon at advertising page has caused stain.
Cowley's work is preceded here by the Preface of the editor, Richard Hurd, Bishop of Worcester, and the Life of Cowley by Thomas Sprat, Bishop of Rochester. Contains Cowley's poems on such subjects as: the death of Anthony Van Dyck, love, drinking, beauty, Pindar, the Royal Society, etc.
Cowley's work is preceded here by the Preface of the editor, Richard Hurd, Bishop of Worcester, and the Life of Cowley by Thomas Sprat, Bishop of Rochester. Contains Cowley's poems on such subjects as: the death of Anthony Van Dyck, love, drinking, beauty, Pindar, the Royal Society, etc.
