Charles Dickens' The Pickwick Papers complete in four volumes. Part of Sheldon's "Works of Charles Dickens. Household Edition." One B&W illustration in each volume with tipped-in protective tissue. Black cloth (faded) with gilt lettering and publisher medallion on spine; gilt medallion on front. Deckled edges. Binding is quite tight.FON on FFEP of each volume. Volume one is inscribed and dated 1866.Covers are faded and bumped, with wear on the top & heels of spines (volume 2 top spine is frayed). Pages are age tanned with occasional stains.

This set of four books was privately printed for members of London's Casanova Society in 1923. The Casanova Society's brief existence lasted from 1922 - 1926, and this was their second publication.This is a Limited Edition. Sets numbered 1 to 750 were of sixteen volumes, and sets numbered 751 to 2250 were of four volumes. The set being offered for sale here is Set #844, complete in four volumes. The set is in good condition with some rubbing at the edges, corners and hinges, and occasional spotting. Each volume is numbered - 844 - which shows a complete original set. Each of the volumes is signed on the title page by Ellsworth Fleming of the Casanova Society, and each is also signed by Fleming again on the following page which describes the publication of the volumes. This set will provide many long evenings of enjoyable reading, and will make a fine addition to your library of classic literature. Fourteen volumes in original hardcovers. Series 1: volumes 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26. 1896-1914. Generally condition runs from Good to Very Good plus. These are heavy volumes that are prone to binding failures when handled improperly. Some of these volumes are sound, some strengthened with new endpapers, some where binding is starting. None have failed bindings. The earlier volumes show more general wear to the boards than later volumes. I have prepared a more complete condition report on each volume so feel free to inquire.
