About This Item

Vietnam: Giai Phong Publishing House, 1972. Although protected with taped down plastic, the wraps of this cheaply printed book show some corner creasing (where the plastic has been applied too tightly) and two small (1/4 inch or less) tears on the lower edge, one each on the front and rear. The sewn binding shows some weakness on either side of one signature but is still strongly coherent. There are two instances of underling and annotation (pencil) in the foreword, and one instance of four red ink digits on the last leaf (probably an original price). Two leaves are noted to have creased corners. The seller believes this to be an important first hand account of the last months of the Vietnam War and the failure of the "Vietnamization" policy as seen by a Vietnamese Saigon resident. To quote the foreword (by the publisher): "But the incumbent US. [sic] President's failures have been more dismal than his predecessors. In the course of the implementation of 'Vietnamization' the US.--pampered Thieu warlike junta and their families have concentrated in their hands all administrative, military, economic, cultural and social power from the central to the local levels in the Saigon occupied areas. Uncountable crimes of the darkest dye have been perpetrated by them against the South Vietnamese. [Para] Strikingly enough, they are all riff-raff, hired killers of various imperialist powers, disreputable in their ethics, inefficient as military, corrupt to the core, plagued by defeatism and locked in a permanent contention for privileges.". Unknown. Illustrated Paper. Good/No Jacket as Issued. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
