LONDON, MILLER, 1811, 1811. First edition thus. 8vo. 4 full-page and 5 vignette steel engravings by James Fittler after paintings by Nicholas Pocock. Introductory letter and biographical memoir by James Stainer Clarke. Later dark blue cloth, marbled edges. Good-very good. Poem in three cantos by Falconer (1732-69), servant of Alexander Campbell and patronized by the Duke of York; shipmate in the Levant trade between Alexandria and Venice who drew on these experiences for the poem, and lost at sea 7 years following the publication of the first edition. Laid down on the verso of the title page is a partly printed receipt, signed by Falconer, to Stilling Fleet Durnford, Esq., acknowledging receipt of half a guinea as the first payment for an unidentified work. With advertisements to the second (1764) and third (1769) editions.. Signed by Author(s). F. Soft cover.
