New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1949. Hardcover in original glassine. Sm 8vo (7.5" x 5"), decorative red paper over boards. 53 pp., laid-in 2" x 3.5" "Season's Greetings" card signed by Margaret McElderry. CONDITION: Good, sunned covers and spine, light wear at extremities, moderate foxing throughout; perished spine of dj repaired with tape.

Stated first edition: "This first edition of Short Stories is limited to fifteen hundred copies, privately printed for the friends of the author and her publishers as a New Year's Greeting." The Season's Greeting card is from legendary editor and children's book publisher, Margaret McEldery, one of Welty's correspondents and the Children's Books Editor at Harcourt at the time of this publication.
