About This Item

This Side of Paradise was the first novel (1920) of the American writer F Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940). It is about the morality of American youth in the aftermath of World War I; it explores the theme of love warped by greed and status-seeking.

Scribner's was always Fitzgerald's publisher; after his death, in 1948, Scribner's reprinted all of his works, all in this black and blue theme. This copy is one of those books.

It does not appear to have been read. It is in pristine condition.

Note: From this set, also listed here, I have The Last Tycoon. I also have Tender is the Night, from the same year and in the same design but with a gloss finish. f you want them all, send me a message.

Synopsis

This Side of Paradise is the debut novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Published in 1920, and taking its title from a line of the Rupert Brooke poem Tiare Tahiti, the book examines the lives and morality of post-World War I youth. Its protagonist, Amory Blaine, is an attractive Princeton University student who dabbles in literature and has the book's theme of love warped by greed and status-seeking.
