First edition bound in vellum. Munich, 1647. Condition is Good. Primary condition issue is missing spine. Text block binding remains sound. Vellum boards with Yapp style fore-edges and typical vellum warp. Interior has modern stamp (R151) on interior front pastedown, ffep with pencil notation and older ink info, title page with old library stamp, prior ownership inscription dated 1699, half title has pencil note at bottom. No other interior markings or problems. Quite decent old paper remains supple. Paginates: [24], map, 480, [12] with original blanks. This is a small format book (12 mo) approximately 12.5 x 7 cm. George Chaworth Musters (1841-1879) "The King of Patagonia" led a remarkable life. Born in Naples, he was orphaned by the age of four, and brought up by his uncle Hammond who had sailed with Fitzroy aboard "The Beagle". He lived and travelled throughout South America, and was recognised by the RGS for his contributions to the geographical knowledge of the continent.
His wife Mary is the ' Mary ' of Byron's poem, 'The Dream.'

I. Riley and Co, New York, 1806. Volumes 1 & 2 (of 3) Hardcover in the original calfskin binding with leather spine labels (titles in gilt largely faded.) "Translated by an American Gentleman," Washington Irving, and this happens to be his first book. Illustrated with a large (26-1/2" x 17-3/4") folded map in the first volume - the map has been repaired (please see photos) in the upper right hands corner. The binding is sound on these antique books - the pages are age toned but in good condition, with foxing heavier in Vol 2 (particularly at the front of the book) than 1. The boards of Vol. 2 are slightly bowed and there's a fair amount of quill pen names and notes in the front and back of that volume.
