New York: Farrar, Straus & Cudahy, 1957. First Edition. Near Fine/Near Fine. First edition, first printing. Signed by Thomas Merton and inscribed to former owners on the half-title page. Bound in publisher's original brown cloth decorated in gilt. Near Fine with cloth lightly sunned at top and bottom edges, front inner hinge slightly tender, pages toned and several pages of text with light ink annotations. In a Near Fine unclipped dust jacket with light wear at the extremities, toning to the spine and a small nick near the center of the front spine joint.
