First edition. 8vo oblong; [56pp]; gilt-stamped green cloth on beveled board, vignette of a child with an umbrella, decorative borders to front, gilt-stamped spine, decorative blind-stamped rear board; all edges gilt; brown endpapers; heavy card-stock leaves printed on one side only; light scuff to corners, creasing to free front endpaper, light diffuse foxing on some pages; very good plus. A charming book of poetry and illustrations for children. Each month features a poem by a noted writer including Oliver Wendell Holmes, Julia Ward Howe, Lucy Larcom, Samuel Longfellow, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Celia Thaxter, and other poets of the day. The relief printed silhouette illustrations on the facing page feature childhood activities and games, and provide a playful glimpse into the child's world.
