"In some of the pictures for this book Dulac continues with the Chinese style developed for Princess Badoura the year before. In others, he reduces the scale and adds a richness of detail to create an effect similar to that seen in Perian and Indian miniature art. The pictures are generally serious but Dulac's ever-present humor creeps in" (Hughey). In this sense, a beautiful encapsulation of the illustrator's style, here applied t oone of the most famous tales from the Arabian Nights.
