About This Item
London : John Murray, 1880. Cloth. Good Only. 7.5" by 5". None. An eloquent account of travels in the Hawaiian Archipelago. Isabella Lucy Bird (1831 1904) was a nineteenth-century English explorer, writer, and a natural historian. Bird's expedition to Hawaii (known in Europe as the Sandwich Islands) was one of her earliest expeditions. She loved her time there, climbing Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, and it prompted the writing of this volume. Illustrated throughout, including a folding map plate of the islands. Collated complete. Third edition. In a full cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally, worn to extremities, boards sound with a little rubbing. Cloth split to rear joint. Hinges tender. Internally, binding strained throughout. Spotting to textblock edge and occasionally to pages, otherwise clean. Neat inscription to recto of front blank. Good Only
