Originally published in 1882 by Hunter, Rose & Co (Toronto). Canadiana Reprint Series No. 54; facsimile of the 1882 original. Peel(3) 900, for both editions. Artigue was one of the original members of the NWMP. According to the introduction, this was the first autobiographical sketch of Mounted Police life to appear in print. The French from which the original was translated does not appear to have ever been published..
