A history of Portland's Ladd & Tilton Bank, the first bank to be established in Oregon, published in 1919 in commemoration of its sixtieth year in business. Many illustrations of historic Portland. Presented in the context of the commercial and social development of Portland and, notably, William Ladd's prominent position of influence in that development. The narrative touches on the establishment of the Portland Library Association, the arrival of the Northern Pacific Railroad, Portland's flouring mills, steam ships, the financial crises of 1884 and 1893, the financial panic of 1907, the Portland fire of 1873, and the city's consolidation with East Portland, etc.
