About This Item

London: 1929-1997. Original Autographed Letters and Documents. Original Autographed Letters and Documents. SMALL ARCHIVE OF 11 letters.
A series of 6 handwritten and types letters by Nigel Nicolson on 3 different Sissinghurst Castle club size letterheads:
August 15,1977, December 9, 1980, June 30, 1981, July 7, 1995, September 21,1995, and November 25,1997.

The letter of June 30,1981 talks about the marriage of Prince Charles:
"Sissinghurst Castle , Kent
30th June 1981
Dear Professor Herzinger,
Thank you for your letter of 18th June about our meeting on 28th July.
I will come to the Institute for Historical Research in Russell Square at 6:45 that day, but must return home soon after the lecture.
I will not need dinner. I am sure you realize that the 28th is the eve of
Prince Charles's wedding, and London will be in gala mood .
It may even happen that few of your students will wish to attend a lecture when there will be so many greater attractions outside. So I wouldn't be surprised if you cancelled it, but will willingly give the lecture if you decide to proceed with it.
Yours sincerely,
Nigel Nicolson"

Also a note card: 4 1/2" x 5 12" on beige card stock to Alice Berry, handwritten October 1954 thanking her for the wonderful time he had at Haverford University where he was a guest speaker. As well as an envelope to the bibliographer Keith Revenscroft.

Two typed letters from Harold Nicolson.
One letter dated and signed January 31 1929 on the Berlin Embassy embossed letterhead sent to Vanity Fair and the other letter dated September 14, 1939 on House of Commons embossed letterhead to Mr. Madol arranging a meeting.
Two small envelopes were in this archive, one addressed to Master Glasser from Knole 1932 and the other to Almitra Taylor London 1934.

Two typed lettters, one airmail letter from Quentin Bell discussing his arrangement for a lecture with Professor Herzinger which was previously discussed in one of the letters by Nigel Nicolson.

A very interesting collection from that period.
