The Century Co, New York . London, 1927. First Edition. Hardcover (1/4 Cloth 3/4 Boards). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: M. J. Gallagher (Michael J. Gallagher). introduction by author and chronology. The text is illustrated with full-page, vignettes and 1/4 page black-and-white woodcuts by M. J. Gallagher (Michael J. Gallagher). 1/4 brown coloured cloth covered back strip with gilt coloured titles. 3/4 brown speckled coloured boards with black coloured illustration and titles to the front panel stop A book on tobacco, history, consumption and usage written in 1927. Softening of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book edges. There is a gouge mark to the front panel, as if it had been caught on a nail, with rubbing of both panels. Uniform light age toning of the text block edges and pages. Some foxing to the end pages. Previous owners ex libris plate to the front paste-down, also written in a black coloured ink to the free front end page. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower left hand corner of the free front end page. There has been ghosting of the frontispiece to the title page. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
