About This Item

1932. Early days in Smyth County, VA, are recalled in this informative book, a new reprint of Smyth County History and Traditions by Goodridge Wilson. The book was originally printed in connection with the Centennial Celebration of Smyth County, Virginia in 1932. Our brand new spiral-bound 11" x 8.5" book is printed on 60# paper. Because of the larger sized paper, each page contains 2 pages from the original book. The colorful front cover is protected with a vinyl sheet. Chapter titles include Holston Surveys, Col. John Buchanan's Journal, Permanent Settlement, Dunmore's War, the Revolution, County Organization, Political Notations, Churches, Schools, Newspapers, Industries, Banks, Transportation, the War Between the States, Negroes of Smyth, World War (I), Southwestern State Hospital, Towns (Chilhowie, Marion, Saltville), Benjamin Franklin Buchanan, Villages and Communities (Atkins, Attoway, Broadford, Cedar Springs, Chatham Hill, Groseclose, North Holston, Seven Mile Ford, Sugar Grove), and Laurel Farm. The book does not contain a separate biographical section, but does include information on the John Thomas family, the Copenhaver-Copenhagen-Kjobenhaven family, the Nathaniel Hull family, the Joseph Cole family, the Francis family, the Sheffey family, the Robert Sayers family, and the Nathan Loomis Look family. In addition, there are many names listed: from early deeds and surveys, names of officials, Civil War soldiers, professional men, etc. . Limited Edition Reprint. Spiral/Comb. New/No Jacket. 11" x 8.5".
