About This Item
FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, BOOK CLUB EDITION-Undated, copyright 1961 -A TIGHT CLEAN AND UNMARKED COPY- WITH MINOR SHELF WEAR-" Handpicked by Amazon kids? books editor, Seira Wilson, for Prime Book Box a children's subscription that inspires a love of reading. Embrace diversity with Dr. Seuss and the Sneetches in this collection of stories about acceptance! The Sneetches got really quite smart on that day, The day they decided that Sneetches are Sneetches. And no kind of Sneetch is the best of the beaches. The story of the Star-bellied Sneetches and their star-less friends is a perfect guide for kids growing up in today's multicultural world. This classic is joined by equally entertaining tales: The Zax, a humorous take on the art of compromise; Too Many Daves, which shows kids that sometimes standing out is better than blending in; and What Was I Scared Of which demonstrates how empathy can transform a stranger into a friend. In these four energetic stories, Dr. Seuss challenges the idea that we have to look the same or be the same to find common ground. Full of Dr. Seuss's signature rhymes and lively humor, this story collection is a must-have for any reader, young or old. ?Pretty much all the stuff you need to know is in Dr. Seuss. "Now, the Star-Belly Sneetches / Had bellies with stars. / The Plain-Belly Sneetches / Had none upon thars." This collection of four of Dr. Seuss's most winning stories begins with that unforgettable tale of the unfortunate Sneetches, bamboozled by one Sylvester McMonkey McBean ("the Fix-it-up Chappie"), who teaches them that pointless prejudice can be costly. Following the Sneetches, a South-Going Zax and a North-Going Zax seem determined to butt heads on the prairie of Prax. Then there's the tongue-twisting story of Mrs. McCave--you know, the one who had 23 sons and named them all Dave. (She realizes that she'd be far less confused had she given them different names, like Marvin O'Gravel Balloon Face or Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate.) A slightly spooky adventure involving a pair of haunted trousers--"What was I scared of?"--closes out the collection. Sneetches and Other Stories is Seuss at his best, with distinctively wacky illustrations and ingeniously weird prose." (Ages 4 to 8) --Paul Hughes
Synopsis
The Sneetches and Other Stories is a collection of stories by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel). It is composed of four separate stories, unrelated except in the fact that most of the stories have important morals. The four stories are: "The Sneetches" "The Zax" "Too Many Daves" "What Was I Scared Of?" The first two stories in the book were later adapted, along with Green Eggs and Ham, into the animated TV special Dr. Seuss on the Loose.
