Jacket edges a bit rubbed, jacket price clipped, pencil name and date on front flap, jacket and pages lightly toned. 1945 Hard Cover. vi, [2], 98 pp. Katherine Milhouse is best known for The Easter Egg Tree, which won a Caldecott award more than 50 years ago. Her home was in the Penna. German country and this is a work of historical fiction based on actual events in the town of Bethlehem PA during a period of unrest between the Native Americans and the settlers of Eastern PA. The town is still known for following Moravian Christmas traditions, building elaborate creches combining natural materials with figurines representing the participants in the Christmas story and celebrating with the music of brass bands and a communal meal of coffee and sweet buns.
