Large scene of knight in armour on titlepage + full-page allegorical plate of three graces and flying Mercury signed I A [Jost Amman] & MF +156 full-page woodcuts of men in armour with their shield coats of arms.. Folio in morocco spined boards (tips bit worn). Title in red & black + 2pp (preface and intro) + captioned full page plate as half title (numbered p3) +4-162pp +[2]pp (colophon with large printer's emblem and blank verso), but seems to lack a final blank leaf. At page 55 is a full-page half title with over 30 figures while at page 103 and 145 are divisional titles with large decorative tailpieces. The book is enclosed in a stamped and typewritten envelope from Matisse at his apartment at 132 Montparnasse Paris, 52, France to collector Mr. Lionel Aucoin at 49 Chestnut Street in Spencer, Massachusetts with French stamps. Light rubbing to spine, covers. Small tears to edges of glassine wrapper Covers slightly yellowed but Interior clean. Envelope slightly browned, bruised at edges, but otherwise near fine.

Original brown cloth, recently rebacked retaining nearly all of the original spine; spine label mostly lacking. A Presentation copy INSCRIBED by the author on the front blank: "To/William Wordsworth Esq./with the author's/compliments." In addition this copy is SIGNED by the recipient on the title page: "W Wordsworth/Rydal Mount." In this volume, and in a second that was issued the following year, Ord attempted a history of England in verse. His efforts were not well received. One reviewer in THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE claimed "that the author has formed his manner and style too much on that of Lord Byron in exaggeration, impetuosity, and a perpetual straining for effect."
