[2], 128; 38, 171 pp. Housed in publisher's cloth portfolios, while the 12 parts are present, one of the portfolio folders is missing. Illustrated with 44 hand-colored plates and with numerous black & white illustrations tipped-in to text leaves. Plates and text are printed on paper watermarked with the title. The plates are beautfully colored and fresh. The text leaves and plates were originally glued into paper wrappers, which were then glued into the portfolios; the glue has disintegrated and the sheets are now loose in the portfolios. The title-page is lacking. There is marginal dampstaing to many text leaves, with some dust-soiling at edges, and the portfolios are soiled. Muller was deputy head of the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, where he was instrumental to its transformation into a disciplined cadet academy. An attractive first edition example of his first work. Laurence Sterne possessed the text in second edition, with possible influence on Uncle Toby and Corporal Trim's obsessions with fortification in The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy. A rare suite of all 30 plates in both hand-coloured and uncoloured states.Total of 91 etchings: 1 set of 30 hand-coloured plates and 2 sets of 30 uncoloured plates, plus portrait of Sardou.The etchings by A. Alexander Neville was a 16th-century scholar known for his studies in antiquities. His portfolio of works isn't as extensive as other English scholars from this era; however, his work 'Furoribus Norfolcensium Ketto Duce' is considered the best work on Kett's Rebellion of 1549.
Kett's Rebellion took place in Norfolk, when Edward VI's forces suppressed Robert Kett and his rebels who were destroying fences of wealthy property owners. Neville frustrated many Welsh readers who took offense to Neville calling Welsh soldiers 'lazy sheep'.

Pierre Jeannin was a 16th-century French politician and financier who is best known for taking part in the negotiations of the Treaty of Lyon and the alliance between France and the Netherlands as well as the Edict of Nantes. He built himself a reputation mediating negotiations which led him to his most important negotiation establishing peace between King Louis XIII and Marie de' Medici.
