Xxxi + 288pp, illustrated with two portraits and occasional cartoons in the text, reproduced from his letters. Harold Chapman was born in Brooklyn, U.S.A. and was killed at the Battle of Loos in 1915. He moved with his mother to England as a young child and went on to become an actor and playwrite before enlisting early in the war. These letters cover his time in training camp and in France and were written to his mother, wife and young son. They include daily observations as well as some humour. Some of Chapamns plays were published posthumously to general acclaim. Contemporary owner's name in pencil on front endpaper.
